What is it?

A site to create online flashcards and be able to play educational games with the vocabulary words and definitions

What do I use it for?

I use it with my students to review vocabulary any time during a chapter, especially before a test.

How do I use it?

I create the flashcards ahead of time and then give students a link to the cards from my website or now they are even embeddable.  The students work individually and I have them keep track of their scores after going through them to show progress (graded on effort).  They can also work in pairs and one can quiz the other.

There are also 2 games that they can play:  scatter and space race.  Great way to differentiate for students who have completed the review.

Another great feature of this tool is that it can create a test out of the flashcards!  Can be a mix of fill ins, multiple choice, etc.  AND it will check the answers for them.  I have students do this for practice.

For differentiation, students can also have the definitions read to them by the computer!  I cannot say enough cool things about this site.

You can also have student create their own flashcards.

Benefit?

My students have loved this and everyone is motivated.  I have had students who start out with low scores and after practicing a few times move up to 100% and they feel so much more confident!  Academic vocabulary is so important to understanding higher level concepts in any subject and this is an excellent way to have students study.  The best part is that they can study from home any time they want.

For the teacher – it is so easy to make the cards and can be saved online.
